VANCOUVER, Wash. — The Clark County government has auctioned off the house of a long-time anti-government activist who owed taxes.
The Vancouver Columbian reported Wednesday that David Darby’s home was sold Tuesday at public auction. The property was sold for $63,099. Clark County officials say Darby had not paid taxes on his Amboy property since 2008 and owed nearly $23,000.
Despite the sale, Darby said he’s got no intention of vacating his property. Darby, a onetime local militia leader, proclaimed himself a sovereign citizen in 2008 and 2009. He believes he’s exempt from paying property taxes.
Clark County Treasurer Doug Lasher said now it’s up to the new owner to take action to remove Darby.
