Interesting story is moving on the wire this afternoon.
AP reporter Rachel La Corte reports that Washington’s Legislature has the second most openly gay members in the nation.
New Hampshire has seven gay legislators, Washington has six and California is next with five.
Rep. Marko Liias, D-Mukilteo, became the newest caucus members when he was appointed Jan. 7. He joins three other gay lawmakers in the House and two in the Senate.
He told La Corte:. “Anything that we can do, me as an individual, or us as a state, to be leaders on this issue and be role models is excellent. The message really is, everyone deserves a stake in Washington, and everyone has a stake in Washington’s future.”
