ARLINGTON — A two-alarm fire consumed a house north of Arlington on Friday afternoon.
Firefighters responded to the blaze near Highway 9 and Harvey Creek Road a little after 3 p.m. By the time they showed up, the entire two-story house was burning.
No one was inside, as far as first responders could tell, North County Fire Chief John Cermak said. The building appeared abandoned, he said, but responders were unable to do a full search. They had to focus on keeping the fire from spreading.
Highway 9 was shut down in both directions as firefighters worked to get the flames under control. Arlington School District delayed bus dropoffs as well.
By 4 p.m., firefighters were “just chasing hot spots,” Cermak said.
