EvCC students give 23,000 hours
Everett Community College students contributed 23,100 volunteer hours during the past year through Students in Service, performing community service valued at the equivalent of $402,171, according to Washington Campus Compact.
The AmeriCorps-affiliated Students in Service program has grown to 75 students since EvCC started its program in January, making it the fastest growing community college site in the state.
All 75 students have committed to volunteering at least 300 or more hours a year. In return, they’ll receive education awards worth at least $1,000. EvCC has chosen six of these students to earn more, up to $2,360 for 900 volunteer hours during two years.
Students who participated in the program during the past year will receive $73,810 worth of scholarships.
The program is supported by EvCC’s Office of Instruction, Student Financial Services and the Student Employment Referral Center.
