$900 for seniors
Snohomish Senior Center received two gifts Nov. 9 at its general membership meeting.
Bob Heirman of Snohomish Sportsmen’s Association and Robert Knight of Snohomish Valley Rotary Club each presented a donation check to the membership of $400 and $500, respectively.
Firefighters finish state academy
Four Snohomish County firefighters recently graduated from the State Fire Training Academy.
Those receiving accreditation and certification of Firefighter 1 and hazardous material operations were Douglas Beardsley, Edmonds Fire Department; Bradley Henning and Matthew James, Monroe Fire District No. 3; and Kenneth Longley, Snohomish Fire District No. 14.
Scout earns Eagle
Robert LeNoir recently was given the rank of Eagle, the highest rank in Boy Scouts.
LeNoir, Life Scout, Troop 60, chartered by St. Pius X Church, Mountlake Terrace, built an outdoor education amphitheater at Brier City Light Park. It has a teaching platform and seats 60.
LeNoir, who attends Edmonds Community College, is a graduate of St. Pius X School, Brier Middle School and Mountlake Terrace High School.
Affordable bike helmets available
Snohomish County SAFE KIDS and FedEx recently received the Outstanding Partnership Award for their efforts in providing affordable bicycle helmets to local distribution sites.
Through FedEx, helmets are stored and delivered to local organizations as needed.

Lynnwood woman finishes AmeriCorps
Rebecca Darnall of Lynnwood recently graduated from AmeriCorps, National Civilian Community Corps.
Since January, Darnall has been stationed out of the Northeast Region campus in Perry Point, Md. She serves communities throughout Maryland, Delaware, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Maine.
Stanwood-Camano Foundation grants
The Stanwood-Camano Area Foundation recently gave checks and certificates to three local organizations receiving grants through its Community Grants Program.
The Stanwood-Camano Food Bank received $1,500, which will be used for the cost of a new restroom facility for clients and volunteers at the food bank’s new location.
World Ministries International was awarded $1,168 to subsidize the purchase of a generator on a renovated mobile dental van.
Lincoln High School received $482 to cover the cost of printing the color cover and binding of 200 copies of a book on World War II. (See picture below.)
Girl Scouts get gold
Kelly Huckins, Megan Betts and Ashley Tracey received the Gold Award, the highest honor in Girl Scouts, during a Court of Honor last night at The Sons of Norway Lodge in Bothell.
Huckins’ project involved the construction of a 12-by-4-foot bridge at Stipek Park. Huckins, a Girl Scout for 11 years, is a freshman at Cascadia Community College studying business. She plans to transfer to Western Washington University to pursue a degree in elementary education.
Betts built a telescope and taught astronomy and some basic physics to third graders. Also a Girl Scout for 11 years, the freshman is studying physics and math at Washington State University.
Tracey built four wooden benches with backs, one for each of the tennis courts at Bothell High School. On the upper back corner of each bench, she wood-burned a cougar paw. Tracey, a Girl Scout for eight years, is a freshman at WSU majoring in math and science and wants to be an engineer.
Granite Falls honors veterans
American Legion Post 125 hosted the Veteran’s Day parade in Granite Falls.
On hand were more than 40 members of the Navy stationed in Everett and 20 airmen from the Washington Air National Guard at Paine Field. Legion members, servicemen’s families and Boy Scout Troop 28 of Granite Falls also attended.
The grand marshal was Chief Master Sgt. Larry Waller, who retired last month as the 215th Engineering Installation Squadron’s WANG full-time technician. (See picture below.)
