Local "Ultimate Idol" contest: Two local residents, Katie Haakenstad of Everett and Anthony Cea of Mukilteo will be competing in the "MIX 92.5 Ultimate Idol" contest at noon on Saturday, May 1 at the Tacoma Supermall’s Great Outdoors Court. Each contestant will have three minutes to perform a chosen song live and will be judged on vocal quality, audience appeal and stage presence.

Rotary award: Rotary Club of Everett March Students of the Month are Brent McCann of Archbishop Murphy High School; Angela Li of Cascade High School; and Lisha McGinty of Everett High School.

WSU awards: Students at Washington State University who received President’s Awards for leadership and service include:

Edmonds: Timothy Hogg, a 1993 graduate of Edmonds High School, is studying English and creative writing.

Everett: Stephanie Jaross, a 2000 graduate of Cascade High School, is studying nursing. Katie Miller, a 2001 graduate of Cascade High School, is studying sport management. Vaddhana Seth, a 2000 graduate of Everett High School, is studying philosophy, English and political science.

Mukilteo: Denise M. Junell, a 2000 graduate of Kamiak High School, is studying apparel, merchandising and textiles.

WSU scholarships: Students at Washington State University who received scholarships include:

Mickayla L. Thompson, a senior at Lake Stevens High School, Science Opportunity Scholarship and Crimson Regents Scholarship.

Matthew L. Ogurkow, a 2002 graduate of Mariner High School, Honors College M.E. and Maxine Johnson Scholarship for $1,000.

Melissa M. Spillum, a 1999 graduate of Lynnwood High School, Jeri McDonald Endowed Scholarship for $500.

Katie S. Rosenthal, a 2001 graduate of Monroe High School, Pioneer Newspaper Scholarship for $2,000, a Maynard Hicks Scholarship for $500 and a George and Gladys Dunning Scholarship for $1,000.
