Helping hands at Mill Creek food bank
Advent Lutheran Church members on Sept. 26 helped out the Volunteers of America Mill Creek Food Bank, helping to deep-clean the facility and then sort and stock the shelves with 680 pounds of food they collected for the food bank.
The church expects to donate 1,000 pounds of food to the food bank for the month. It earlier delivered 1,744 pounds of fresh produce grown in its “Garden of Giving” over the summer.
Snohomish Kiwanis hand out awards
The Kiwanis Club of Snohomish recently handed out its annual awards. The 2014-15 Kiwanis Distinguished Service Award went to Kate Maloney; the Kiwanis President’s Award to Mark Hintz; and the Kiwanian of the Year is Debbie Emge.
Meanwhile, new board members also were selected for 2015-16, including Emge as club president.
Event brings in 1,725 pounds of food
The city of Mill Creek held its annual paper-shredding event Sept. 12, thanks to Shred-It which donated its trucks. The event saw 13.5 tons of paper shredded. The event also brought in more than 1,725 pounds of food donations (more than double from the last event in 2013) and $782 for the Volunteers of America Mill Creek Food Bank.
Council member Donna Michelson coordinated the event with help from city staff, volunteers and Youth Advisory Board members.
$6,000 donation will buy beds for kids
St. Vincent de Paul North Sound Council recently received a donation of $6,000 from The Tamaki Foundation in Seattle. All of the money will go toward the purchase of beds for children who are otherwise sleeping on the floor in their homes.
