Appointed mayor holds lead in Mountlake Terrace

In south Snohomish County, a mayor serving in a council-manager form of government appeared to be holding off a challenge from a fellow council member in Mountlake Terrace.

Meanwhile, one Bothell City Councilwoman trailed her challenger.

Mountlake Terrace

John Zambrano challenged Councilman Jerry Smith, who is serving as the council-appointed mayor. In early returns, Smith held a commanding 62 percent to 37 percent lead. Meanwhile, incumbent Kyoko Wright was leading first-time candidate Jasmin Contreras 58 percent to 42 percent and Rick Ryan appeared to be holding off challenger Ann Nygaard 60 percent to 40 percent, while Douglas McCardle led first-time candidate Andrew Funk, 53 percent to 47 percent.

Mill Creek

Longtime Position 1 Councilman Terry Ryan faced a challenge this year from Councilwoman Mary Kay Voss. In early returns Tuesday, Ryan held a 59 percent to 41 percent lead over Voss. Bart (Tim) Masterson was leading newcomer Ken Bender 63 percent to 37 percent and former mayor and councilwoman Kathy Nielsen led Snohomish County Sheriff’s deputy Vincent Cavaleri 53 percent to 47 percent. Councilwoman Donna Michelson ran unopposed.

Brier

Mayor Bob Colinas was unopposed in his bid for reelection as mayor. In the only contested City Council race, Councilman Dennis Nick trailed Mike Gallagher in the Position 3 race, 53 percent to 47 percent.

Bothell

With one exception, incumbents were leading challengers in the race for four open City Council seats. In early returns Tuesday, Joshua Freed was leading planning commissioner Joyce Wojcik by 236 votes. Challenger Tom Agnew held a 129 vote lead over incumbent and Mayor pro-tem Sandy Guinn. Incumbent Patrick Ewing was leading Jennifer Armenta and incumbent Del Spivey led Gerry Gawne.
