Area communities mark Memorial Day

Memorial Day services and events are planned for today and Monday to honor those who died protecting our country. Here is a list of what’s happening:

Bothell: 1 p.m. today, Bothell Historical Museum, 9919 NE 180th St., Bothell, "Petals in the River." Members of the historical society will toss flowers over the bridge and honor deceased members.

Everett: Central Memorial Day Committee, 10:30 a.m. today, Memorial Community Church, 710 Pecks Drive, followed by breakfast, $5, at Eagles FOE 13, 3726 Broadway.

Everett: Bagpiper, 2 and 4 p.m. today, 9 a.m., noon and 3 p.m. Monday. Cypress Lawn, 1615 SE Everett Mall Way.

Index: Index Historical Society opens the Pickett Museum, noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, 510 Avenue A, Index.

Arlington: Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1561 and American Legion Post No. 76, 6 a.m. Monday, Arlington Cemetery, followed by breakfast at 7 a.m., American Legion Hall, 115 N. Olympic Ave. $3.50.

Arlington: Parade, 10 a.m. Monday on Olympic Avenue, followed by an Avenue of Flags ceremony at the Arlington Cemetery at 20310 67th Ave. NE.

Bothell: 2 p.m. Monday, Acacia Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 14951 Bothell Way NE, Bothell.

Coupeville: American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Fleet Reserve Association, 11 a.m. Monday, Coupeville Cemetery, Sherman Road. Snacks, noon Legion Hall, 690 SE Barrington.

Edmonds: 11 a.m. Monday, Edmonds Memorial Cemetery, 820 15th St. SW. Special tribute to women veterans.

Everett: Central Memorial Day Committee, 11 a.m. Monday, Evergreen Cemetery Mausoleum, 4505 Broadway, Everett.

Everett: Everett Elks Lodge No. 479, placing flags with friends and scouts, 8 a.m. Monday, Evergreen Cemetery, 4504 Broadway, then on to Cypress Lawn, 1615 SE Everett Mall Way. Breakfast, 8 to 10 a.m., Elks Lodge, 2731 Rucker Ave., $5 donation requested. U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen will eat breakfast at the Elks after placing flags.

Granite Falls: Ceremony, 10 a.m. Monday, American Legion Cemetery, 10406 Jordan Road. A potluck will follow at the American Legion Hall, 301 S. Granite Ave.

Lake Stevens: Service, 11 a.m. Monday, at the War Memorial, across the street from Jay’s Market, 1809 124th Ave. NE, Lake Stevens.

Lynnwood: Vietnam Veterans of America Sno-King Chapter 423 and Purdy and Walters at Floral Hills, service, 3 p.m. Monday, Floral Hills Cemetery, 409 Filbert Road.

Oak Harbor: American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Fleet Reserve Association, 10 a.m. Monday, Maple Leaf Cemetery, on NE 16th Avenue. Snacks, noon, Legion Hall, 690 SE Barrington St.

Seattle: 1:30 p.m. concert, 2 p.m. service, Monday, Evergreen-Washelli Memorial Park at 11111 Aurora Ave. N.

Snohomish: 11 a.m. Monday, GAR Cemetery, 8601 Riverview Road, by American Legion Post 96 and the Snohomish VFW. The Snohomish High School band and the Snohomish Junior Reserved Officer Training Corp. will participate.

Stanwood: Stanwood Area Historical Society Cemetery Open House, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday, Our Saviour’s Lutheran and Anderson cemeteries on Pioneer Highway in Stanwood; Cedarhome Cemetery on 68th Avenue NW; Florence Cemetery south of Stanwood off Marine Drive; and Camano Pioneer Cemetery on NE Camano Drive near Terry’s Corner. Maps will be available at any of the five locations.

Stanwood: 11 a.m. Monday, Anderson Cemetery on Pioneer Highway, south of Highway 532 in Stanwood.

Sultan: A Sultan-Gold Bar ceremony, sponsored by Gold Bar VFW Post 9417, 11 a.m. Monday at the monument in Sultan cemetery on Cemetery Road off U.S. 2. Also, a small ceremony is planned following the cemetery event, at about noon Monday, at the U.S. 2 bridge over the Skykomish River.

Beginning March 1, Community Transit to reduce some fares

Riders eligible for reduced fares will pay $1 for a single ORCA card tap and $36 for a monthly pass.
