The Arlington High School Air Force Junior ROTC placed third in the state in a cyber security defense competition. The Air Force Association’s CyberPatriot competition is part of the National Youth Cyber Education Program.
Students were given a set of virtual images that represent operating systems and were tasked with finding cybersecurity vulnerabilities within the images. They earned a point for each vulnerability they fixed.
Last year, the team competed in the “gold” division and also earned third place. They moved up to the “platinum” category this year. Their goal is to place first next year.
“A lot of our computer skills are self-taught,” said Cadet Master Sergeant Zechariah Rodino. “We realized that we need more training to get to that top level next year so that’s what we’re working on.”
