ARLINGTON – The board of Cascade Valley Hospital approved a 14.1 percent raise this week for top administrator Clark Jones.
The raise is aimed at bringing Jones’ salary to the median of what top executives at other hospitals of its size make, said Margo Powell, chairwoman of the board of the taxpayer-supported hospital.
Jones will now be paid $166,000 a year. His previous salary was $145,486.
“He’s been very valuable to the organization and we want to make sure we can retain quality employees,” Powell said.
Jones took over as co-administrator of the hospital in 2000 when it was facing a financial crisis, losing about $100,000 a month. He replaced Bob Campbell, who resigned after 12 years as the hospital’s chief executive.
Since then, the hospital has regained financial stability and Jones has been named its sole administrator.
The hospital now has plans for expansion and may ask taxpayers to approve a bond issue next year to pay for improvements, including an upgrade to its emergency room.
The current hospital opened in 1988 and has 42,000 square feet.
Cascade Valley and its seven affiliated businesses ended last year with a net profit of $914,355, or 2.1 percent, Jones said.
The 48-bed hospital has 430 full- and part-time employees.
The closest taxpayer-supported hospital, 72-bed Valley General in Monroe, pays its top administrator $166,413. This includes a $5,400 vehicle stipend.
