LAKEWOOD — A north Snohomish County man was jailed for investigation of assault Saturday after he allegedly began beating people with the butt of a handgun and a garden shovel.
The 23-year-old Arlington man was at the home of one of his uncles in the 8300 block of 184th Street NW in the Lakewood area when he began to attack people, said Jan Jorgensen, spokeswoman for the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.
"He began assaulting and striking several people in the residence, family and friends, using the butt of his gun, and in one case a shovel," Jorgensen said.
The man fled after a 911 call was made at about 11:20 a.m. Sheriff’s deputies converged on the area, some in the department’s helicopter. The man was spotted running through nearby woods, and the helicopter guided Washington State Patrol troopers to intercept him near Lake Martha, Jorgensen said.
None of those injured in the assault required hospitalization for their injuries. The man, who has prior felony convictions, was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of two counts of second-degree assault. Additional charges, including possible weapons violations, are anticipated, Jorgensen said.
