ARLINGTON – A woman out for a walk in Smokey Point on Monday night was assaulted by two men hiding in the woods, police said.
Now, detectives are asking for the public’s help to try to find the men.
“We want to make sure we catch them so they’re off the streets so they can’t do this type of thing to anybody else,” Arlington city spokeswoman Kristin Banfield said.
The woman, 26, was walking in the 18400 block of 31st Avenue NE at about 9:15 p.m., Banfield said. That’s when the men pulled her into a wooded area and knocked her to the ground.
The woman fought the men and possibly pulled out one of the men’s earrings, tearing his earlobe, she said. The men ran away.
Police searched the area but were unable to find the men, Banfield said.
“It’s definitely a scary thing,” Banfield said. “We’re very grateful and commend the woman for fighting back and reporting it. She’s a very courageous individual.”
The woman apparently did not have any physical injuries.
The men are described as young, possibly in their 20s.
One is described as white, about 5 feet, 6 inches to 6 feet tall, skinny, with a crew cut and light hair. He was wearing a white or light-colored tank top and baggy blue jeans. The man may have a torn left earlobe where an earring would have been.
The other is described as having a dark complexion and skinny. He was wearing a dark-blue hooded sweatshirt, possibly with a Georgetown University logo. He may have a pierced eyebrow and high-pitched voice.
The woman who was assaulted provided police with lots of information about the assault, Banfield said.
“She did a great job remembering details,” she said.
