Haller Middle School students Skyped with NASA engineer Nujoud Merancy on Oct. 5 to learn more about the Orion spacecraft and its mission. Merancy is the planning and analysis lead engineer for Orion — as well as a University of Washington graduate and Seahawks fan.
“Whether students plan to work in aerospace engineering or not, they look at her and feel like the world is open to them as long as they work hard and dream big,” teacher Rachel Harrington said.
Orion is a crew spacecraft that first flew in 2014 and is slated to ride into space atop the agency’s Space Launch System rocket in 2019. NASA plans for the Orion to one day take astronauts to Mars.
