SEDRO-WOOLLEY — Police say the man killed Tuesday by a Sedro-Woolley police officer after a chase had two guns on him — a .45-caliber handgun in hand and another gun in a holster on his body.
The Skagit County coroner identified the dead man as 57-year-old Donald Michael Humphries. Sheriff’s Chief Criminal Deputy Will Reichardt said Humphries lived in Sedro-Woolley.
The officer who opened fire was identified Wednesday as 32-year-old Adam Musgrove. He is on paid administrative leave while the sheriff’s office investigates the shooting. The Skagit Valley Herald said he recently returned from a nine-month tour of duty with the Navy in the Middle East.
The encounter began Tuesday afternoon when Musgrove tried to pull over the man for erratic driving.
Police Chief Doug Wood said the 57-year-old man got out of his car after a chase and approached the officer. Wood says the officer ordered the man to stop, but he pulled a handgun, forcing the officer to fire.
