EVERETT — A Marysville man with a knife was arrested early Friday after a standoff went on for four hours outside a north Everett apartment complex.
The man, 31, was having an apparent mental health crisis on the sidewalk outside the Highlander Apartments on 11th Street, Everett officer Aaron Snell said.
Neighbors reported he had a 10-inch knife. He refused to put it down when officers arrived, and instead advanced toward them, according to police. Officers drew their guns but did not fire. A SWAT team and negotiator worked until sunrise trying to convince the man to surrender.
Over the hours, he kept dropping the knife, only to pick it up again, according to police. Eventually, officers fired non-lethal weapons and pinned him. He reportedly tensed his muscles to resist going into handcuffs. An officer fired a stun gun. The man was taken to a hospital to be examined.
Police say they recovered about a quarter of a gram of suspected methamphetamine.
The man was booked into jail at 9 a.m. for investigation of felony harassment and meth possession.
