Snohomish: Design Review board vacancy
The city is looking for candidates to fill a vacancy at the design review board.
Anyone interested in the unpaid position must submit their application to the city clerk by 4 p.m. Oct. 12 at City Hall, 116 Union Ave.
Applicants for the position, which is a four-year term, must either live, work, or own property or a business within city limits. The City Council is scheduled to confirm the successful candidate on the Nov. 6 meeting.
The council is looking to replace Mark Henry, who resigned last week for personal reasons. His term expires July 2013.

Ceremony to say thanks for renovations
The Snohomish School District is inviting the community for a re-dedication ceremony of Snohomish High School.
The district is saying thanks to the community for approving two bonds in 2004 and 2008 that provided money for construction of new schools and renovations at Snohomish High School. The ceremony is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Monday at 1316 Fifth St. Refreshments will be provided. Music and speeches from city leaders are part of the event.
Marysville: Financing for affordable housing
Five apartment complexes, including one in Marysville and two in Oak Harbor, will be retained as affordable housing through financing announced Tuesday by the Washington State Housing Finance Commission.
Financing for improvements to 194 apartment units includes the issuance of $8,959,428 in tax-exempt bonds and the allocation of federal Low-Income Housing Tax Credits valued at about $4,225,210.
Among the existing facilities, which house low- and moderate-income families earning 60 percent of the Area Median Income or less, are the Wellington Apartments at 4329 88th St. in Marysville, and the Newport and Chelsea Apartments at 280 NE Izett St. in Oak Harbor. The others are in Burlington and Shelton.
The commission works with investors, nonprofit groups, developers and first-time home buyers to increase housing access.
County: Drop off unwanted medicines
A national effort aimed at cracking down on prescription drug abuse will include another “Drug Take-Back Day” at local police departments Saturday.
People are encouraged to bring expired, unused and unwanted medicines. The drop-off times and locations are:
•Arlington Police Department, 110 E 3rd St., 10 a.m. to noon.
Everett Police Department north precinct, 3002 Wetmore Ave., 8 a.m. to noon.
Lake Stevens Frontier Village Bartell Drugs, 621 Highway 9 NE, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Lynnwood Police Department, 19321 44th Ave. W, 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Snohomish Police Department, 230 Maple Ave., 8 a.m. to noon.
