Everett: Volunteers sought for commission
The city of Everett is seeking applications from anyone who would like to serve on the city’s Historical Commission. Applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. June 14.
Historical Commission volunteers advise the city on matters of history and historic preservation. They also nominate property to be included on the Everett Register of Historic Places, review state and national register nominations, review restoration tax benefits, provide design review in Historical Overlay Zones and publishe information about Everett heritage.
Applications are available at the Everett Mayor’s Office, 2930 Wetmore Ave, Suite 10 A, in downtown Everett or call the mayor’s office at 425-257-7115 to have an application emailed.

Marysville: Giving campaign starts
After years of supporting various civic and social causes, Anchor Storage is announcing their first annual “Summer of Giving Campaign”, co-sponsored with the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots Foundation – South Snohomish County Division (Smokey Point south to the King County line).
Their inaugural event will be a food drive from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 29 at Grocery Outlet in Marysville for Snohomish County food banks.
The final event of the summer will be a Back to School Backpack and School Supply Drive at the Tulalip Wal-Mart from 10 a.m to 6 p.m. Aug. 3.

Mill Creek: Fundraiser to aid Town Center
An all-you-can-eat breakfast is planned from 8:30 to 11 a.m. June 20 at Merrill Gardens Retirement Community. Merrill Gardens is located at 14905 Bothell/Everett Hwy in Mill Creek. Food will include French toast, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage and coffee, tea, and juice. Suggested donation is $10 or whatever you can afford. Proceeds will assist the Mill Creek Town Center in their efforts to hold educational, health, and recreational programs in our area.

Terrace: Learn about changing Ballinger Golf Course to park
Planning is under way to transition Ballinger Golf Course to a 42-acre passive park, open space and environmental sanctuary. As part of the community outreach process, the Recreation and Parks Department along with the volunteer Recreation and Parks Advisory Commission have scheduled an open house at 7 p.m. June 11 in the Ballinger Clubhouse, 23000 Lakeview Drive. The open house will begin with a tour of the park and conclude with a workshop to allow people to talk about types of features and amenities to consider as part of the overall park master planning process.

County: Forest Service offers fee-free day
The U.S. Forest Service is offering a fee-free day on Saturday in celebration of National Get Outdoors Day, an annual event to encourage healthy, active outdoor fun. The Forest Service offers fee-free four times a year. The first such fee-free period in 2013 was Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The other days are Sept. 28 for National Public Lands Day and Nov. 9-11 for Veterans Day weekend.
