Arlington: Army gun salute set for Sunday
A U.S. Army Honor Guard plans a gun salute at about 1 p.m. Sunday at the Arlington Municipal Cemetery, at the intersection of Cemetery Road and 67th Avenue NE.
The gun salute is for fallen solders who perhaps did not receive proper burial services. The public is encouraged to attend.
Everett: Vikings are program topic
The regular meeting of Thelma Lodge #26, Daughters of Norway, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Normanna Lodge, 2725 Oakes, Everett. The program will be on the Vikings, presented by Roberta Morrow, docent at the Nordic Heritage Museum in Seattle. Membership in the Daughters of Norway is open to women age 13 or older with a Nordic background, either by descent or marriage. Guests are welcome at this meeting.
Camano Island: Free firearm safety seminar
A free one-day firearm safety seminar is planned by the Camano Law Enforcement Support Foundation and the Norpoint Shooting Center to discuss safe handling and storage of firearms.
The seminar is planned from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Feb. 23 at Camano Island Senior Center, 606 Arrowhead Road. No shooting will be done during the seminar. No live ammunition will be used in any demonstrations or displays. Do not bring personal firearms.
This presentation aims to teach fundamental firearm safety rules so that people can identify different types of firearms, check to see if a firearm is loaded or unloaded and learn how to safely store firearms.
The organizers require that all participants sign a hold harmless waiver and all young people (ages 12-17) attending must have a parent and/or legal guardian sign and attend the class with them.
Lynnwood: Science, tech, math fair at EdCC
Edmonds Community College hosts its annual STEM Saturday event 1-3 p.m. Feb. 23. The event aims to get middle-school students interested in science, technology, engineering and math projects at the college.
Students and their families can meet college STEM students and faculty and participate in hands-on activities, including a pollination station, an egg-drop engineering contest and more. There will be refreshments, raffles — and things are sure to get blown up.
The event is aimed at students in grade 6 and up, but all ages are welcome. RSVP at www.edcc.edu/rise.
The event will be held in the Brier Hall lobby on the campus at 20000 68th Ave. W., Lynnwood.
Snohomish: Make a blanket to donate
The Project Linus national Make-A-Blanket Day is happening locally from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday in the Zion Lutheran parish hall, 330 Union Ave.
Help make quilts and blankets to be donated to Snohomish County kids who have experienced traumatic life events. Materials and equipment are provided. No experience is necessary, but sewers are encouraged to bring their own sewing machines. Volunteers are needed to help sew, iron, inspect, pin, fringe and tie. Donations of fabric, sewing supplies and completed blankets also are welcome.
