Edmonds: Rally against coal trains
Several groups are planning a rally to raise awareness about the growing number of trains rolling through Edmonds.
The “Don’t Block Our Beach” rally is scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Brackett’s Landing South, adjacent to the ferry dock. The public is invited.
The rally is sponsored by a coalition of the Edmonds Chamber of Commerce, Sustainable Edmonds, Port of Edmonds, Edmonds Senior Center, City of Edmonds and Fire District 1.
City officials said public safety and waterfront access were key concerns about the increased train traffic.
“The safety and accessibility of our waterfront is at stake here; with the senior center, an international underwater dive park, the Port of Edmonds, and ferry transport, as well as several beaches, we need access to our beachfront 24/7,” Edmonds Mayor Dave Earling said in a statement.
