Bothell: Bridge to be replaced
Snohomish County is preparing to replace the bridge that carries Carter Road over Swamp Creek, starting in the spring of 2013.
At that time, a full road closure and detour will take effect.
The structure, also known as county Bridge No. 546, is in the Bothell area just north of the county line. The two-lane bridge was built in 1966 and now requires increased maintenance. It has a weight restriction of 16 tons.
The new bridge’s design is longer and wider. It includes sidewalks on both sides, instead of only one side on the current bridge. There are shoulders for bicyclists as well.

Edmonds: Special Olympics run
Edmonds and Mountlake Terrace police officers spent Friday participating in the 2012 Law Enforcement Torch Run in support of Special Olympics Washington. They were joined by emergency dispatchers from SNOCOM, which serves south Snohomish County.
The run this year started in Blaine and ended at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.
South county police and dispatchers took the torch at the 21000 block of Highway 99 and “carried it with pride to 244th Street SW,” Edmonds police Sgt. Mike Blackburn said.
Shoreline police took over from there. South Snohomish County had 17 law enforcement runners in all.
“Additionally, a support group of volunteers from all three agencies assisted with traffic control, support vehicles and photography of the event,” Blackburn said.
Everett: Talk about pollution
A talk on water quality, environmental toxins and air pollution is scheduled for tonight’s Silver Lake neighborhood meeting.
Rein Attemann from People For Puget Sound is scheduled to discuss how toxic substances affect residents.
The meeting is planned for 7 p.m. at the activity center at 11525 19th Ave., Everett.

Mill Creek: Weigh in on facilities plan
Mill Creek City Council plans a public hearing at 6 p.m. June 26 at City Hall, 15728 Main St. to update the existing Capital Facilities Plan for the planning period of 2013-19.
The plan is an outline of capital projects and programs the city is continuing or starting.
A copy of the plan is available for review at City Hall.
City wins award for wellness
The city of Mill Creek was awarded a WellCity Award from the Association of Washington Cities Employee Benefit Trust.
Mill Creek is part of the Association’s Employee Benefit Trust, a health insurance pool that provides coverage to more than 15,000 city employees across the state. As a result of earning the designation, WellCity Award recipients will receive a discount on coverage.
