Sultan: Council plans annual budget retreat
The Sultan City Council plans to discuss budget priorities for 2011 during its annual summer retreat, scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
The council could spend the morning discussing a $50,000 increase to the police budget and a $30,000 increase to the parks budget. The council may also weigh a plan to invest $100,000 on long-range projects.
The afternoon may focus on specific details for park maintenance and a proposal to add up to two parks maintenance staffers.
The retreat will be held at the Monroe Library, 1070 Village Way, Monroe.

Everett: Hearing on downtown zoning
People in Everett are invited to weigh in on several proposals that would affect businesses downtown. Public hearings are set for 6:30 p.m. June 9 and June 23 at the City Council Chambers, 3002 Wetmore Ave. The city wants to allow more flexibility for different kinds of businesses to set up shop in odd spaces and basements. Officials also want to amend the review process so property owners within 150 feet are notified rather than only contiguous neighbors. The city also is proposing to expand rules that allow micro-breweries to include boutique wineries, distilleries and tasting rooms.

Lynnwood: New name for college building
Edmonds Community College’s Triton Union Building, a community meeting space, has been renamed Woodway Hall.
The 25,000 square-foot building, built in 1991, is the largest events space on campus other than gymnasium. The building also houses the lab for the college’s allied health and nursing programs and its campus security office.
The building’s name was changed because it was often confused with the Triton Student Center, which opened in 2009.
