Lake Stevens: Help for learning English

The Lake Stevens Family Center is offering a weekly class for native speakers of Spanish who wish to improve their English skills.

The Talk Time class takes place from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays at Lake Stevens Baptist Church, 1702 Main St.

Instructor Luisa Vazquez provides a relaxed, conversational approach to beginning English. Free child care is provided.

Mukilteo: Historical society meets Thursday

The Mukilteo Historical Society will meets Thursday at 7 p.m. in the art room of Rosehill Community Center, 304 Lincoln Ave.

April’s speaker is Jim Godwin, garden manager at Mukilteo Community Garden.

The meeting is open to the public and refreshments will be served.

Lynnwood: Garden club has scholarships

The Alderwood Garden Club will offer two scholarships to students within the Edmonds School District interested in horticulture.

It is offering a $1,000 scholarship and a $500 Floy Poe Memorial Scholarship, to students in a horticulture-related field.

Applicants must be graduating seniors in an Edmonds School District high school or currently attending Edmonds Community College with plans to enroll in a horticulture-related program at any accredited college or school next fall.

Applications are available in high schools’ counseling offices and at the EdCC Horticulture Department.

The application must be postmarked by April 30.

Granite Falls: Classes for home-schoolers set

The Granite Falls School District is starting a class for home-schooled middle school students.

The class will start with a unit on Greek history and include lessons in reading, art and language arts.

Students will meet with a teacher from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. every Friday in a classroom at the Crossroads Alternative High School campus, 405 N. Alder Ave.

Students are then welcome to stay until 2 p.m. to work on other subjects or use the computer lab.
