Edmonds: Sidewalk dining gets city’s OK

People will be dining al fresco in Edmonds this summer, thanks to the City Council allowing businesses to use the city’s sidewalks for bistro and outdoor dining.

Businesses will be allowed to put tables and chairs up to three feet into the city’s right of way on sidewalks.

“When we looked at, physically, how seating and tables are positioned, we saw that three feet gives the business more flexibility,” city engineer Robert English said.

Businesses will be allowed to keep the chairs and tables on the sidewalks until closing time.

The measure originally limited the time until 11 p.m., but was amended before the measure passed unanimously earlier this month.
