Everett: Goodwill offers free classes in job skills

People may now register for free classes at the Everett South Goodwill’s Job Training and Education Center, 228 SW Everett Mall Way. The center is offering classes in English for speakers of other languages, basic computer classes, career building assistance. Classes begin Jan. 4 and last eight weeks.

Village harkens to an old-time Christmas

Step back into an old-world village at Wintertide, a free annual celebration from 5 to 7 p.m. Mondays until Christmas at Everett Performing Arts Center, 2710 Wetmore Ave.

Join carolers in song and warm up next to a bonfire and enjoy a cup of cocoa. Kids’ activities include holiday craft projects and a model railroad.

Consider adopting a pound puppy for Christmas

The Everett Animal Shelter would like you to consider adopting a pet for the holidays. The shelter accepts about 7,500 animals annually, but only 2,500 find homes. The shelter also needs donated pet food. Drop off dry dog or cat food between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily at the shelter, 333 Smith Island Road.

Lake Stevens: Benefit planned to help Devin Wood family

An event is planned for Saturday to help Devin Wood of Lake Stevens and his family as he battles cancer.

The Jingle Bell Jog and Cancer Walk is scheduled for noon to 2:30 p.m. at the track at Cavelero Mid High School, 8220 24th St. SE. Santa Claus, a bouncy house, snacks, hot dogs, coffee, cocoa, face painting, a fire truck and raffles are planned. Prizes include a $600 diamond ring.

There is no entry fee but donations are accepted. The first 50 people to donate $25 or more will receive a free Santa hat. Anyone donating $50 or more will receive a free raffle ticket.

Wood, 44, was diagnosed in April with stage-four cancer of the tongue and has been unable to work. He and his wife, Tami, have three children.

Snohomish: Top Food hosts Christmas food drive

It takes more than $10,000 for the Snohomish Community Food Bank to fill its Christmas dinner baskets with fresh produce, hams and more. With that in mind, Snohomish Top Food is collecting donations for the food bank at its check-out counters through Dec. 24. Shoppers can donate any amount or buy food from a list of needed items provided at the grocery’s guest services counter. Little round hams and milk are particularly wanted. Top Foods is located at 1301 Ave. D.
