Snohomish: Union agrees to forgo cost-of-living pay hikes
Leaders from the city and two city worker groups represented by Teamsters Local No. 763 agreed to forgo cost-of-living hikes through the end of the year. Union representatives for Snohomish’s office of technical and public works employees agreed to forgo a pay bump to help the city during tough economic times.
Union city employees typically receive a negotiated pay hike based on a percentage of the consumer price index, a measure of the cost of goods purchased by average U.S. households calculated by the U.S. government.
The city isn’t sure how much money the move will save, said city manager Larry Bauman. It will help the city general fund stay in the black. “It quite possibly could save someone’s job,” he said.
