Lake Stevens: Youth Forum on Thursday

The Lake Stevens Family Center’s Youth Advisory Council is planning its fifth annual Youth Forum for Thursday.

The event is 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Lake Stevens School District Educational Service Center, 12309 22nd St. NE. Refreshments are planned.

The forum will feature youth discussing bullying and discrimination and how they can lead to alienation, substance abuse and teen suicide. Also planned are youth-created PowerPoint presentations, music and drama and a districtwide art showcase.

Snohomish: Feds fund sewage project

The city received a $500,000 grant for its wastewater system. The money was part of a federal appropriations bill signed into law by President Barack Obama on March 11. The city has received a total of $7 million in state and federal grants for the wastewater project. The improvements could cost as much as $38 million. The city has put its original plans to upgrade the system on hold while considering whether to run a line to Everett instead.

Monroe: Matthew House seeks donations

Matthew House, a nonprofit that supports the families of those incarcerated, needs donations of clothes and cash. Matthew House supports families with a clothing closet, a food pantry, shelter, transportation to various prisons, child care and adult counseling. Donations can be mailed to P.O. Box 201, Monroe, WA 98272.

Camano Island: Gardening talk set

Patty Glick, the National Wildlife Federation’s specialist on the topic of climate change, plans to talk about how landscape management practices can reduce the impact on the environment.

The presentation is 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Camano Multipurpose Center, 141 N. East Camano Drive, and is part of a public education series hosted on the third Wednesday of each month by the Camano Wildlife Project, sponsored by Friends of Camano Island Parks as part of the Island County watershed project.

Coupeville: Help historical committee

The Island County Board of Commissioners is looking for a volunteer to complete a term on the county’s Historical Review Committee in connection with the Ebey’s Landing National Historical Reserve near Coupeville. The term runs until August 2010. The committee meets twice a month.
