Arts commission has an opening for a volunteer
The city of Lake Stevens has an opening on its arts commission.
The volunteer board reviews matters relating to the arts and culture in the city, including public art projects, and provides input to the City Council.
Commissioners’ terms are for four years. The panel meets at 6:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month.

Party with the Eagles on New Year’s Eve
The Eagles invite everyone to a New Year’s Eve party at their place, 19223 Highway 99. The party starts with a buffet dinner 6:30 p.m., followed by live music from Starbird. Don’t bring the kids — this party is for people 21 and over. Tickets cost $20 and are on sale now at the bar.

Scouts to recycle Christmas trees
People living in Lynnwood wishing to recycle their natural Christmas trees after the holidays will have options for dropping it off or leaving it for pick-up curbside.
Trees may be dropped off from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 3 and 4 on 56th Avenue W. at Wilcox Park, one block north of 196th Street SW. Boy Scout Troop 304 will handle the trees.
Troop 304 also plans to distribute flyers to most single-family homes in the city limits with information about curbside pickup and how to donate to the troop.
Boy Scout Troop 65 plans curbside pickup in the northeast part of the city on Jan. 3 only. The troop plans to distribute flyers to homes between 44th Avenue W., Maple Road, 164th Street SW and Highway 525 with information.
All decorations, tinsel, tree stands and nails must be removed from the tree for it to be recycled. Flocked trees are not accepted.

Craft event set for kids
Craft away the day at a Winter Crafternoon at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Mukilteo Library, 4675 Harbour Pointe Blvd. This event is for kids ages 5 to 11. There will be cookies and cider, too. Please register in advance by calling the library at 425-493-8202.
Snohomish
One property no longer considered contaminated
The Department of Ecology plans to remove a Snohomish property from a statewide list of contaminated sites. The parcel, at 9218 171st Ave. SE, is a 2-acre residential lot owned by B&R Homes. The company cleaned up the contaminated soil and materials left over from an illegal drug lab and junk yard under the agency’s Voluntary Cleanup Program.
Before taking the property off the list, the agency invites public comment until Jan. 20. Go online to www.ecy.wa.gov/programs/tcp/sites/sites.html.
Sultan
New planning member
The City Council unanimously voted to approve the mayor’s appointment of a local businesswoman to the city’s planning board. Sultan resident Robin Shaw will take over the position vacated by Scott Zaffram.
Zaffram resigned because of scheduling conflicts and Shaw will finish out the remainder of his two-year term, which ends July 2010. The planning board reviews and monitors the city’s comprehensive plan and develops regulations.
Five people serve on the board. Shaw lives in Sultan and runs her own business recycling ink toners from her home.
