Free movie for kids during winter break
The city of Arlington and the Olympic Theater are set to offer a free showing of “Kung Fu Panda” for children on their break from school.
This animated comedy is about a panda named Po, who must somehow become a Kung Fu master to save the Valley of Peace from a villainous snow leopard.
The movie is scheduled to be shown at 1 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the theater, 107 N. Olympic Ave. in downtown Arlington.

Eagles Club plans New Year’s Eve party
The Lynnwood Eagles Club invites the public to its New Year’s Eve party, the Night of New Beginnings.
The evening begins at 6:30 p.m. with a buffet dinner, with live music by Starbird from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Tickets are $20.

Camano Island
Messiah sing-along set for Monday
Singers in the Stanwood-Camano Island area are invited to participate in a performance of Handel’s “Messiah.”
The sing-along is set for 7 p.m. Monday at St. Aidan Episcopal Church, 1318 Highway 532 on Camano Island.
There is no fee to participate, but people can donate to future musical programs for the community.
Following the performance, a plum pudding reception is scheduled.
Those who can are asked to bring their own scores.
Mountlake Terrace
After-school program receives $3,000 grant
The city of Mountlake Terrace’s Kids Krew Program has been awarded a 2009 Quality Enhancement Grant for $3,000 from School’s Out Washington to enhance its after-school program.
The Quality Enhancement Grant project is designed to improve the quality of Washington state’s after-school programs for children ages 5-12, particularly those from low-income families, communities of color and those with special needs.
Kids Krew Programs at the Mountlake Terrace Recreation Pavilion, Madrona K-8 School and Evergreen Elementary can use the grant for new activities, according to city spokeswoman Penny Merkley.
Mountlake Terrace was among 21 programs to be awarded the grant.
