Two county cars switched to electric
Two cars in the fleet owned by Snohomish County government are now fully electric.
The cars, both Toyota Prius hybrids, recently were converted as part of the Plugin Center PHEV Pilot Project.
The cars were fitted with plug-in electric kits and data monitors at Wenatchee Valley College. The cars now park and are charged at the county’s McDougall fleet shop and at the Cathcart fleet center.
The vehicles use lithium battery packs with 120-volt outlets. The battery packs can last for up to 30 miles. Recharging the batteries takes more than five hours.

County-maintained culverts shown on map
An interactive map showing every culvert maintained by Snohomish County is now available online. The map allows users to click on individual culverts and view information about each one, including what the culvert is made of, the condition of the culvert, its shape and which streams it serves.
A 2007 ruling on a lawsuit filed by American Indian tribes in Western Washington against the state determined that the state must repair culverts that currently do not allow fish to pass through. The county is not currently under the same obligation, but the map shows the status of county-owned culverts and offers information as to whether they are effective fish passages.
