PUD manager elected to national utility group

Snohomish County PUD General Manager Steve Klein was recently elected to a three-year term on the American Public Power Association board of directors.

Based in Washington, D.C., the Public Power Association is the national service organization for more than 2,000 nonprofit community- and state-owned electric utilities.

Klein has served as general manager of the PUD since April 2006. He has more 30 years of experience in the electric utility industry. Klein previously worked for Tacoma Power, including serving as its superintendent for 13 years and in a variety of management and engineering roles.

There, he helped integrate fiber-optic telecommunications with electric distribution. His helped pave the way for the Click!Network, which provides television and high-speed internet service to communities around Tacoma.

Lake Stevens

National Night Out planned for Aug. 5

Lake Stevens is making plans for its annual National Night Out Against Crime.

The event is 5 to 9 p.m. Aug. 5 at North Cove Park, behind City Hall at 1812 Main St.

The purpose of the event is to fight crime by bringing people together to heighten awareness and strengthen community spirit. This is the 25th year for such events around the nation.

Music, a barbecue dinner, community resource booths and more are planned. Lake Stevens’ own U.S. National Dance Sport champion Eric Linder and his partner Rickie Taylor are scheduled to make an appearance.

The event is sponsored by the Lake Stevens Family Center and the Lake Stevens Police Department.

Admission is free, with donations of school supplies for low-income families welcome.
