Mountlake Terrace
Council chambers might remain closed
Tests found slightly unsafe levels of asbestos in the Mountlake Terrace City Hall council chambers after the ceiling inside the chambers collapsed earlier this week.
However, the council chambers may remain closed permanently because of the high cost required to clean it and make repairs.
City Hall reopened for business on Thursday, but the lobby and council chambers remain closed. People must follow signs to enter the building through a conference room.
Except for the council chambers, air quality tests found the building to be safe for occupancy, city officials said. The city is expected to decide this fall what to do with its closed council chambers.
