Public hearing Thursday on bus fair increases
A public hearing on proposed bus fare increases is 3 p.m. Thursday in the Community Transit board room, 7100 Hardeson Road, Everett.
Citing the rising cost of fuel and lower than expected sales tax revenue, Community Transit is thinking about raising bus fares as well as the fees charged for paratransit and vanpool services.
The proposal would add 25 cents to local bus trips, 50 cents to short commuter trips into King County and 75 cents to long commuter trips to King County. Senior fares on commuter routes would rise, but would be kept to half the regular adult fares.
The transportation agency plans to take public comment on the proposed fare increases until the end of the month. If the Community Transit board agrees to the hike, new fares would be charged starting Oct. 1.
Public comment also can be sent by e-mail to fares@commtrans.org or made in person at other meetings set for 6 to 8 p.m. July 15 at Marysville City Hall, 4822 Grove St., or 6:30 p.m. July 16 at the South County PUD office, 21018 Highway 99, Edmonds.

Hospital rezone hearing for Colby site Monday
A public hearing on Everett Providence Medical Center’s controversial rezone plan for its Colby campus continues at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Everett Station’s fourth floor Weyerhaeuser Room, 3201 Smith Ave.
The hospital’s plan to build a 50-foot-tall utility plant close to houses on Rockefeller and Oakes has spurred neighborhood opposition.
Before it can build the plant, the hospital needs the city to change its comprehensive plan, which sets rules for the city’s zoning and land use.
