State in town to enroll people in health plan
Outreach workers from the state are scheduled to visit the Lake Stevens Family Center once a week beginning Tuesday to enroll people in the Basic Health Plan.
An employee from the state Department of Social and Health Services will visit the center every Tuesday to provide information and sign people up for the state health insurance plan and other benefits available to qualifying families.
People in the Lake Stevens area previously had to visit Everett or Monroe to speak in person with staff from the Department of Social and Health Services.
Times of service at the Lake Stevens Family Center will be based on appointment.

Marysville
City Council won’t meet during August
The Marysville City Council is not meeting in the month of August.
The council usually meets the first four Mondays of each month. Every year, the City Council is off for the month of August.
The last meeting was July 28. The next meeting is tentatively scheduled for Sept. 2.

Monroe
Group aims to build performing arts center
The Monroe Arts Council is planning a town meeting to discuss how to launch an effort to build a new performing arts and event center in Monroe at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Sky Valley Education Center, 17072 Tye St.
The arts council, a nonprofit group, believes that building a performing arts and event center should increase revenue for the community and help Monroe become a travel destination.

Snohomish
Council appoints design review board member
The City Council on Aug. 5 appointed Rebecca Loveless to serve on the city’s design review board for the next four years. The vote was unanimous.
Loveless, a former city councilwoman, was appointed to the board when Karen Guzak resigned to start serving on the City Council in late 2007.
The design review board is an advisory committee of volunteers to monitor development in the city’s historic district. The city sets design standards for the district.
