Comcast Arena bond refinancing approved
The public facilities board that owns Comcast Arena has approved a plan to refinance variable-rate bonds.
Earlier this year the arena enjoyed interest rates as low as 0.65 percent. The financial crisis has sent those rates upward — they’re now at 2.75 percent.
The arena issued $27.4 million in revenue bonds now affected by an overseas financial crisis.
Belgian-French bank Dexia backs some of the municipal bonds held by the Everett Public Facilities District.
That bank also has billions of dollars of exposure to Greece’s debt.

Woodway: Point Wells cleanup talk
A civil engineer with experience in environmental cleanup is scheduled to give a presentation tonight on the costs of removing contamination from the century-old Puget Sound industrial site at Point Wells.
Hank Landau’s talk is part of Woodway Town Council’s regular 7 p.m. meeting. The address is 23920 113th Place W.
Woodway had no direct role in the cleanup. The talk will give context to a proposed redevelopment of high-end condos and shops that international developer Blue Square Real Estate is seeking on the 61-acre site in unincorporated Snohomish County.
Mountlake Terrace: Vacation house checks
Mountlake Terrace police are reminding people to sign up for house checks before they go on vacation this fall or holiday season.
The city’s Crime Watch program will send volunteers to check on people’s homes while they’re away. Volunteers call patrol officers if anything is amiss.
The program also is accepting applications for volunteers. In addition to house checks, volunteers can help out police at city events.
