Everett: Library hosts author of ‘Moondogs’

The Everett Public Library plans to host a talk with novelist Alexander Yates, author of “Moondogs,” at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The novel has received positive reviews from The Wall Street Journal and Entertainment Weekly, among others.

A free information session on volunteer opportunities at Providence Hospice & Home Care is scheduled for 2 to 4 p.m. July 20 in downtown Everett.

Autism documentary at Everett Theatre

A special presentation of the film, “Wretches & Jabberers,” will be shown at the Historic Everett Theatre at 7 p.m. July 21. The theater is at 2911 Colby Ave.

The documentary chronicles the world travels of disability rights advocates in a quest to change attitudes about the intelligence and abilities of people with autism.

A $5 donation is requested. Proceeds benefit The ARC of Snohomish County, an organization that advocates for the rights of people with developmental disabilities.

Mountlake Terrace: Police academy grads

Nineteen people recently graduated from Mountlake Terrace’s Citizens Police Academy.

The graduates spent more than 30 hours over the past few months learning how the police and other city departments work. A ceremony was held late last month at the town’s library.

The academy is held every late spring. You must be 18 to attend or 16 to attend with a parent.

Mukilteo: Hearing on medical pot gardens

A public hearing is planned at the Mukilteo City Council meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at City Hall, 11930 Cyrus Way, Mukilteo.

The goal of the hearing is to consider an ordinance establishing a moratorium on medical marijuana gardens in Mukilteo.

Written comments are being accepted at City Hall until 4:30 p.m. the day of the hearing. People also can comment during the hearing.
