Everett: Nominate a senior for award
The Washington Oakes Retirement Community is accepting nominations for the Lighthouse Awards, which recognize people ages 62 and older who are working to make the greater Everett area a better place.
The nomination deadline is Aug. 5. The award ceremony is scheduled for October at Washington Oakes Retirement, 1717 Rockefeller Ave.

Lake Stevens: New plan for fire district
Snohomish County Fire District 8 in Lake Stevens is working on a new strategic plan due out later this year.
The district is working with a strategic planning consultant with Waldron & Company, a Seattle-based consulting firm.
The strategic plan is expected to cost about $10,000. The district hopes to complete the plan by the end of August, a spokeswoman said.
Lynnwood: Police volunteer honored
Cheryl Surridge, a longtime Lynnwood police volunteer, recently was honored for her work in car seat safety education.
She has been a driving force behind the police department’s car seat installation program, Police Chief Steve Jensen said.
Every week, Surridge helps parents learn to properly install and use car seats. She also was Safe Kids Snohomish County volunteer of the year this past year.
