Lake Stevens: Workshop for highway improvements

The Greater Lake Stevens Chamber of Commerce plans to host a workshop Wednesday to develop ideas that can help ease congestion and improve access at the Highway 9 and Highway 204 intersection.

The meeting is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon at the Lake Stevens School District Educational Service Center.

Lake Stevens: New firefighters sworn in

Snohomish County Fire District 8 in Lake Stevens swore in three new firefighters earlier this month.

A special ceremony was held Feb. 3 to honor them for passing their year-long probationary period.

Fire Chief Dave Lingenfelter presented the Firefighter Oath to Brian Kees, Garth Lervold and David Petersen. He also thanked them for their hard work and positive attitudes.

Stanwood: I-5 lane and ramp to close

Department of Transportation crews are set to close the right lane of northbound I-5 and the 300th Street offramp at exit 215 on Wednesday to install new signs for the weigh station.

The northbound I-5 weigh station, northeast of Stanwood, also is scheduled to be closed during the work. The off-ramp closure begins at 7 a.m. Wednesday and ends at 7 a.m. Thursday.

Detours are planned, but drivers should watch for congestion and delays through the work zone.

Stanwood: Volunteers needed for bird fest

Volunteers are still being sought to help with the 2011 Port Susan Snow Goose & Birding Festival on Saturday and Sunday.

Volunteers will help with registration at the Floyd Norgaard Center in Stanwood.

Oak Harbor: Blood drive scheduled

The Oak Harbor Lion Club is sponsoring a blood drive from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, 1050 SE Ireland St., Oak Harbor.

All blood types are needed. Tasty treats and beverages are to be served to donors.
