Arlington: Farmers market a U.S. favorite
American Farmland Trust has crowned the Arlington Farmers Market the favorite small farmers market in America.
The award is the culmination of a summer-long online voting contest to determine which farmers market could rally the most support for its community. The markets across America compete based on the size of their markets in average vendor tents. Arlington, with an average of 14, ended the contest with the most votes cast in the “small” category, with 325 out of 5,266 votes cast nationwide.
While the poll is not a scientific one, it shows that the market has a lot of local support, according to Arlington Farmers Market officials.
“What this win says to us is that our community cares about what we are building here. We organize the market on volunteer passion, and it’s such a huge encouragement to know that what we do not only matters to the vitality of our small businesses, but is well loved by the residents of our hometown,” market spokeswoman Samantha Schuller said.

Expect road work delays on Highway 9
Drivers on Highway 9 north of Arlington should anticipate delays this week near the intersection of Harvey Creek Road.
Construction will reduce traffic to one lane on Wednesday. The project, led by the Stillaguamish Tribe, will improve traffic flow along Highway 9 by adding a turn lane to Harvey Creek Road.
Freeland: Fire levy meetings planned
The South Whidbey fire department plans two more meetings for neighbors to learn about a proposed levy increase.
Voters in November will be asked to approve a 15-cent increase that would bring the fire levy to 76 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value.
The meetings are planned for 5:30 p.m. Thursday and Oct. 11th. at 5535 Cameron Road, Freeland.
Mukilteo: Mayor at historical meeting
Mukilteo Mayor Joe Marine is scheduled to speak at a meeting of the Mukilteo Historical Society on Thursday.
The meeting is planned for 7:15 pm in the Fowler Room at Rosehill Community Center, 304 Lincoln Ave.
The scheduled topic is “What’s Happening in Mukilteo.” The meeting is open to the public and refreshments are planned.
