YAKIMA — Police in Yakima say they’ve made an arrest after a high speed freeway chase that followed an armed bank robbery.
Police spokesman Mike Bastinelli says an armed man wearing a ski mask robbed a U.S. Bank branch Friday morning, getting away with an undisclosed amount of money in a white van.
The chase began after an officer responding to the robbery call spotted a van driving erratically. Yakima County sheriff’s officers and state troopers assisted in the chase, which led eastbound onto I-82 at speeds that topped 100 mph. Spike strips were finally used to disable the van near Zillah.
The Yakima Herald-Republic says the driver briefly held a gun to his chin before he was talked into surrendering.
The man arrested for investigation of first-degree robbery and eluding was not immediately identified.
Police say they found evidence from the bank robbery in the van.
