EDMONDS — An Edmonds man was being held for investigation of first-degree assault after he allegedly introduced a machete into a fist-fight with a roommate Saturday evening.
John Accie Briggs, 58, reportedly told police he went to his room and got the machete after his roommate struck him in the face, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in Everett District Court.
Edmonds police went to the residence about 10:15 p.m. after receiving reports of a possible domestic disturbance.
When Edmonds officer Nathaniel Rossi arrived he saw a man “running from the residence barefoot and terrified, yelling for help.” The man was bleeding from wounds to one of his arms and back, and claimed that Briggs had been trying to hit him on the head with a machete, the affidavit said.
Briggs reportedly told them he and his roommate had been fighting, and after being struck, he decided to get the machete from his room.
Briggs had an injury to his face and claimed he had acted in self defense. The officer concluded that Briggs became the primary aggressor when he introduced a deadly weapon into the mix.
The man was jailed on $25,000 bail.
