LYNNWOOD – A Lynnwood man used a baseball bat to clobber a suspected arsonist early today after the man was seen walking away from a burning car early this morning, Lynnwood police said.
A passerby spotted a vehicle on fire about 5:30 a.m. in front of a house in the 6900 block of 176th Street SW. The passerby woke up the homeowner, who spotted another man walk out of the shadows and down the street, said Lynnwood police spokeswoman Shannon Sessions said.
The homeowner grabbed a baseball bat from his home and followed the man.
He told police he saw the suspect stop at the Maple Park Lutheran Church and attempt to start some debris on fire, Sessions said.
“He subdued the man with a baseball bat until police arrived,” Sessions said.
The suspect, whose age and hometown were not immediately available, was taken to Stevens Hospital and released. He was arrested for investigation of arson. Detectives continue to investigate the incident.
