Neighbors sent county officials comments on the Glacier View housing project. They were sent to the developer’s consultant, Merle Ash of Land Technologies, for a response.
These are some of the comments that upset neighbors.
“The hillside is migrating into the Snohomish River valley bottom. This development will further destabilize this area.”
— Andrew and Monica Thorne, letter
“It has been migrating for 10,000 years, the mountains are migrating to the oceans. The Midwest is migrating out the Mississippi River to the Gulf of Mexico. At a future date the world will be nearly flat.”
— Merle Ash
“There are multitypes of endangered plants on or near this site.”
— Andrew and Monica Thorne, letter
“Where and what plants, the endangered alder tree?”
— Merle Ash
“The area is full of wildlife, it is one of the few places that can still support such an ecosystem.”
— Scott Shook
” … If you want to stop growth and support wildlife, promote sterilization at birth.”
— Merle Ash
“Removal of more trees will just keep changing our weather.”
— Gary and Dianne Amundson, letter
“I thought the Russians had control of our weather.”
— Merle Ash
“There are lots of children and elderly in the residential streets with no sidewalks.”
— Lesley Womanchild, e-mail
“The streets are not for playing, why didn’t the neighborhood build sidewalks when it was developed?”
— Merle Ash
“The site is literally surrounded by designated critical areas due to steep slope and associated erosion and landslide hazards.”
—Michael and Kay Svob, letter
“This is nothing new, but these ravines have been eroding for 10,000 years ever since the retreating of the last great glaciers. Al Gore has recently been predicting ‘Global Warming’ but most of us have realized this area has been warming since the 300-foot glaciers that formed this valley melted back 10,000 years ago.”
— Merle Ash
“The proposed zone is congested. (We) moved to this neighborhood because of the current zone.”
— Susan and Benjamin Abolafya, e-mail
“Talk to the boys that wrote the Growth Management Act (GMA).”
— Merle Ash
