SPOKANE — The state Attorney General’s Office is trying to prevent the release of a convicted Spokane sex offender from prison.
Travis C. Fields, 37, was sentenced to seven years in prison in 2008 after pleading guilty to second-degree child molestation and third-degree rape of a child.
The Spokesman-Review reports he also has a prior conviction for attempted first-degree child molestation in 1993.
The Attorney General’s office said Tuesday that Fields was due to be released March 21. The office has petitioned to have Fields civilly committed and alleges he is mentally ill and sexually dangerous.
A judge found probable cause to believe Fields is a sexually violent predator on March 19, a ruling allowing the state to detain him for further proceedings.
