DAMASCUS, Ore. — Animal welfare workers and police have seized 95 malnourished cats and two dogs from a suburban Portland woman.
The animals were taken Tuesday to the Oregon Humane Society shelter in Portland, where veterinarians will examine them.
Humane Society spokesman David Lytle told The Oregonian the animals are suffering from obvious respiratory problems. He said medical evaluations could lead to animal neglect charges against the unidentified woman. The home reportedly reeked of feces and urine.
The home came to authorities’ attention in May after neighbors contacted code-enforcement officers for the city of Damascus, complaining of garbage and a concentration of cats.
Lytle said the woman denied several requests to let animal welfare workers examine the animals.
