SEATTLE — Avalanches, mudslides and standing water have closed Snoqualmie and Stevens passes and other highways in Washington.
The situation is changing this morning as rain continues to fall.
The Transportation Department is clearing snow and debris on the major Cascade passes assessing the danger before deciding when Snoqualmie and Stevens passes can reopen.
White Pass remains open, traction tires advised, but mudslides block U.S. 12 near Mossy Rock and Glenoma on the west side and Rimrock on the east side.
The Transportation Department also reports Blewett Pass is closed.
