EVERETT — Police are investigating a report that a 4-month-old child and babysitter were abducted Thursday over a debt dispute.
The child and babysitter were found safe and unharmed after the suspect, a woman whose age wasn’t immediately available, reportedly called the child’s mother. She provided information to Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office deputies, who found the missing pair in the 200 block of 107th Street SW Everett.
“It doesn’t look like it is going to be a kidnapping,” Everett police Sgt. Ryan Dalberg said. “The child is safe and sound. The detectives are still investigating.”
The report came in around 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
It was initially believed that the woman had taken the child and the child’s babysitter to a motel located in the 200 block of 128th Street SW, in unincorporated Snohomish County, sheriff’s Lt. Robert Palmer said.
When deputies arrived they learned the woman had left the motel, apparently with the child, and possibly with the babysitter, he said.
Deputies later determined that the child had been taken from an Everett residence. They went to the 6000 block of Beverly Lane while coordinating with the Everett Police Department.
Around 6:30 p.m., the mother reported receiving a call from the woman under investigation. That led deputies to the baby and babysitter.
The suspect was gone. No arrests were made.
“It is unknown whether criminal charges will result from this investigation,” Palmer said. “There are many facts that still need to be sorted out and confirmed before that occurs.”
