BELLEVUE — Police in Bellevue say a 9-month-old baby was unharmed after an SUV plowed into his nursery, hitting the crib where he was sleeping.
Spokesman Seth Tyler says it was “pretty miraculous” that the SUV damaged the crib, partially collapsing it, but then stopped short of injuring the child.
He says a 34-year-old Bellevue driver accelerated instead of braking as she pulled into a carport Tuesday morning. Her SUV lurched forward, jumped a curb and smashed into an apartment building and into the baby’s room.
Tyler says the boy’s parents heard the crash and ran into the room. The boy was checked by medics at the scene and had no injuries.
The woman’s husband was teaching her to drive at the time. Tyler says it doesn’t appear drugs or alcohol played a role.
