GRANITE FALLS – Search and rescue crews hurried to reach three underage hikers trapped Tuesday night by bad weather on Three Fingers Mountain and were starting to develop hypothermia.
The three hikers called for help about 8:30 p.m. when they found themselves unprepared for difficult weather conditions, Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Lt. Dallas Swank said.
He said all three hikers are believed to be 17 years of age.
The hikers were unable to reach shelter and the cell phone they used to contact deputies was running low on power, Swank said.
One of the boys reported that a back injury he had previously began acting up on the trail, he said.
Swank said a search-and-rescue crew of 20 to 25 people was working fast to try and locate the hikers as soon as possible. As of midnight search crews were hiking to the trio and bringing emergency supplies to them.
