Bail was kept at $2 million Thursday for an Everett man charged in what prosecutors said was a brutal gunpoint beating and sexual assault on his ex-girlfriend.
Timothy Ray Bland, 27, was charged Wednesday with first-degree rape, first-degree kidnapping and witness tampering after he allegedly forced the woman to accompany him to a motel room in Everett on Sunday.
Snohomish County Superior Court Judge Larry McKeeman maintained the high bail, at least until Monday, when Bland is expected to be arraigned.
The woman told Snohomish County sheriff’s detectives that Bland forced her into his car and beat her before driving to the motel room where he had been staying. Inside, he beat her again, sometimes using a belt, deputy prosecutor Mark Roe said in charging papers.
According to documents, Bland held a gun to her head while he raped her. He also threatened to kill her, then spray-painted her legs black, Roe said.
The woman escaped and officers were called when Bland, who allegedly had been on a days-long methamphetamine binge, passed out.
“The defendant is reputed to be a high-level drug dealer,” Roe said. “Over $80,000 in cash was found in the motel room, and $8,000 on his person.”
An additional $300,000 has been seized from Bland in an unrelated investigation related to drug dealing, Roe said.
During her ordeal, Bland told her he had broken into her Bothell-area home. She later found insults scribbled on her walls and pictures of her son in the toilet, Roe said.
After his arrest Bland contacted the victim’s brother, trying to get the woman to drop the charges, court papers said.
Roe asked for the high bail, he said, because the victim and her brother fear that Bland “will make bail and come after them.”
